Des Moines Police Release More Details In Officer-Involved Shooting

(Des Moines, IA) -- Des Moines Police are releasing more details surrounding an officer-involved shooting last week.

The fatal shooting occured as officers were trying to conduct a wellness check of a woman whose father had called police to the Flats Apartments on South East Fifth Street.

Police say 33-year old Zakar Jeffrey first tried to stab the father before charging an officer with the knife.

Zakar was shot by Officer Noah DeVenney and died at the scene.

The woman, identified as 33-year old Martasha McKenzie was found dead in the apartment following the shooting.

Her death is being investigated as a murder.
