(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- A new survey shows a large majority of eastern Iowa workers lack basic jobs skills.

90% of businesses responding to a Kirkwood Community College survey report their employees lack basic skills like attendance, accountability, and reliability.

Another 60% reported problems filling job openings too.

Kirkwood researchers surveyed just over 400 companies across 7 eastern Iowa counties for the report.

Nearly half the respondents were mid-sized companies with 50-250 workers.

They were spread amongst manufacturers, health care, and construction.
