Report: Nearly 1 in 4 Des Moines Residents Owes $10k in Credit Card Debt

(Des Moines, IA) -- A new report finds five-figure credit card debt is growing among card holders in the country's 100 largest metro areas.

The report from Lending Tree finds 24.4% of Des Moines residents owe at least $10,000 in credit card debt. That's number 68 out of the nation's 100 most populated metro areas. Des Moines is below the 100 metro average of 26.5% of residents owing at least $10,000 in credit card debt.

In Des Moines, 1.9% of residents hold at least $50,000 in credit card debt, below the 100 metro average of 2.7% of residents. The metro area at the top of the list is Bridgeport, Connecticut, where 35.9% of credit card holders carry at least $10,000 in credit card debt, and 5.6% carry at least $50,000 in debt on their credit cards.
