Property Tax Reform Could Hurt Iowa Community Colleges

(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Leaders at Kirkwood College in Cedar Rapids say plans to reform the state's property taxes could harm community colleges.

Kirkwood leaders say capping property tax increases at 2% annually could create a growing gap between funding and costs year-over-year that some colleges eventually might not be able to bridge.

Legislators are still trying to hammer out a compromise between House and Senate versions of the bill. As of today, they're working without pay.
