(Des Moines, IA) -- Students are regaining access to Canvas at Des Moines Public Schools following yesterday’s cyberattack.

On Thursday, a cyberattack by the hacker group ShinyHunters locked students and staff across the country out of the learning management platform. The group gave Canvas’ parent company, Instructure, until May 12th to meet its ransom demands or risk the release of private information.

DMPS says Instructure took Canvas offline in response, and the platform is now back online. The district also says Canvas does not store students’ or staff’s home addresses, birthdays, financial information, phone numbers, or Social Security numbers.
