(Des Moines, IA) -- The Des Moines International Airport will start using new gate numbers beginning Wednesday, May 13th.

The transition will start overnight on Tuesday into Wednesday as part of the airport's preparations for the opening of its new terminal in January of next year. Airline carries are coordinating with Des Moines International to make sure the new gate numbers are reflected on boarding passes, and Sarah Hoodjer with the Des Moines International Airport says staff will be on hand to help passengers with any confusion during the transition:

"Ticket agents will be able to tell you if it [the new gate number] didn't transfer over. They'll translate it for you, but we actually anticipate not many hiccups, so we do think that everything will just transition. All of our screens will reflect the new numbers, as should the boarding pass or the airline app."

During the overnight transition, new gate signage will be installed throughout the concourse. The airport's exterior signage has been in the process of being updated to reflect changes as part of the airport's expansion project.

Hoodjer says the new signage will be a preview of how the airport will look when the new terminal opens. The new terminal at the Des Moines International Airport is on track to open as scheduled in January of 2027.
