(Iowa) -- Summit Carbon Solutions is cutting 200 miles from a proposed, carbon capture pipeline across Iowa.

The company filed a revised route with the Iowa Utilities Commission, removing 400 landowners from the project's footprint.

The pipeline would no longer be routed through Shelby, Pottawattamie, Montgomery, Adams, Page, Freemont, Mitchell and Worth counties.

Pipeline miles would be reduced in Crawford, Floyd, Sioux and Dickinson counties.

The move comes after public outcry by Iowa landowners who didn't want the CO2 pipeline their property.

Summit CEO Joe Griffin says this is the right step for the project.

“Agriculture is facing real economic pressure right now. Farmers and ethanol producers need access to new markets and long-term growth opportunities, and there is urgency to getting infrastructure like this moving forward, " Griffin said.

Summit says it will continue to work with a group of ethanol facilities, including 27 in Iowa.
