City of Des Moines Hosting Three Free SCRUB Events Saturday

(Des Moines, IA) -- Des Moines residents will have a chance to get rid of large items, yard waste, and hazardous chemicals at three free events Saturday.

The city of Des Moines is hosting three SCRUB (Spring Cleanup to Reduce Urban Blight) events, including a Mega SCRUB. Each of the three locations will accept different types of items. The three events include:

  • Mega SCRUB: 7am-1pm
    • Location: Polk County River Place - 2309 Euclid Avenue
    • Items accepted: Household hazardous waste, electronic recycling, document shredding, any items accepted at regular SCRUB events
  • SCRUB: 7am-2pm
    • Location: Metro Central Transfer Station
    • Items accepted: Bulk trash items including furniture, appliances, TVs, computers, lawn mowers (drained of oil and gas), tires (limit of 10 per vehicle)
  • Compost SCRUB: 7am-2pm
    • Location: 1601 Harriet Street
    • Items accepted: Leaves, brush and grass clippings, tree limbs (24” diameter or less; max length 10’), straw, hay and garden waste
