(Des Moines, IA) -- The Des Moines housing market is off to a strong spring season.
In April, the market saw increases in inventory, pending activity, and closed sales, as well as a decrease in the average number of days homes spend on the market. Scott Steelman with the Des Moines Area Association of Realtors says, "This April, we saw a pretty robust spring start. We exceeded our activity from a year ago, which is quite an improvement year-over-year. We're still looking forward to a very strong and robust market this year."
In April, the Des Moines metro housing market had 3,909 properties listed, a 2.5% increase since April of 2025. Closed sales also saw increases, with 1,234 closings last month, a 6.4% increase compared to last years. The median sales price fell slightly last month to $295,000, a 0.5% decrease from April of 2025.
Homes spent less time on the market in April to an average of 71 days, a 14.5% decrease from March of this year's average of 83 days on the market.
