(Des Moines, IA) -- Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) is partnering with Goodwill of Central Iowa on a special initiative throughout the month of June.

Food donation sites will be collecting non-perishable food items throughout the month at nine Goodwill locations. Blake Willadsen, Marketing and Communication Manager at DMARC, says this drive gives people who are already planning on donating clothing or other household items to the Goodwill to make a donation to help families in Central Iowa facing food insecurity this summer:

"Think about the things that those little kids that you know would love to have. It's great for us to have non-perishable items like peanut butter, cereal, and fruit. We'd love to have those things that are easy for on-the-go, and we'd also just really love to have a variety of things on our shelves."

The nine Goodwill of Central Iowa stores participating in the month-long food drive include:

  • Ankeny 1
  • Ankeny 2
  • Altoona
  • East
  • Johnston
  • Jordan Creek
  • Urbandale
  • Waukee
  • Valley West

The donation sites will feature a special red barrel at the donation door. All food items collected will go to the DMARC Food Pantry Network. DMARC says there are roughly 80,000 people in the Des Moines metro that utilize a DMARC pantry, with one in three of those being under the age of 18.

More information is available at the Goodwill of Central Iowa website.
