(Polk County, IA) -- The Polk County Sheriff's Office is reporting a large increase in a scam attempts from people impersonating law enforcement.
Scammers are claiming to be employees of the Polk County Sheriff's Office and ask for payments to resolve a law enforcement issue. The Sheriff's Office says neither its employees or those from any other law enforcement agency will request payment over the phone to resolve a legal issue or request payment in the form of gift cards or cryptocurrency.
Anyone who receives such a call should hang up and report the scam call to local law enforcement.
