(Polk County, IA) -- Polk County will activate its Extreme Temperature Plan on Sunday.
The plan will go into effect on Sunday, June 28th at 4pm and includes the activation of cooling centers, weather amnesty at homeless shelters, and Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority bus rides to cooling centers. The Extreme Temperatures Plan is activated when the heat index reaches 95 degrees and above AND two consecutive days during which the heat index goes not fall below 75 degrees overnight.
The plan will remain in effect until further notice. More information about the Extreme Temperatures Plan is available on the Polk County Emergency Management website.
