DMPD Make Arrest Following Hatchet Attack

(Des Moines, IA ) -- A Des Moines man faces multiple charges in an alleged hatchet attack. It happened last night just before 6:30PM in the 3800 Block of MLK Jr Parkway. Des Moines officers responded to a call and found two people who said they had been held against their will. Sergeant Paul Parizek says one victim, a woman, had an large injury to the back of her head from a hatchet. Her wounds were not life threatening.

Officers found 46-year-old Matthew Logsdon barricaded inside an apartment. Police used a ram to enter the unit and took Logsdon into custody.

Logsdon is being held in the Polk County Jail on charges of:

  • Willful Injury Causing Bodily Injury (Class D felony)
  • Harassment - 1st Degree (Aggravated Misdemeanor), 2 counts
  • False Imprisonment (Serious Misdemeanor), 2 counts
  • Interference With Official Acts (Simple Misdemeanor)
