Interstate 35 Shooter Suspect Faces Attempted Murder Charges

(West Des Moines, IA) -- A West Des Moines man accused of shooting at other vehicles on Interstate 35 faces four counts of attempted murder.

The criminal complaint says 27-year old Andrew Tanaka fired several rounds at two cars on Monday, striking one of the drivers in the shoulder.

Tanaka continued northbound, rear ending a third vehicle and firing at least one round into its windshield.

Tanaka reportedly told law enforcement, "I had to kill people today."

He also faces a charge of Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon.

Tanaka remains held in the Warren County Jail on a million dollars bond.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled October 16th.
