UPDATE: Authorities say a woman who died in a fire in a detached garage last week in New Sharon has been identified as 61-year-old Karen Bunting. The investigation into the cause of the fire continues.

NEW SHARON, Iowa- An investigation is underway into a fatal fire in New Sharon, in Mahaska County.
Fire Chief Josh Crouse says crews were called to the 100-block of North Elm Street shortly before two o'clock this (Friday) morning.
The fire was isolated to a detached garage. The name of the victim is not being released, pending pending notification of family.
New Sharon Fire Department was assisted by Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office, New Sharon Police Department, Mahaska Health Partnership Ambulance, Mahaska County 911 Communications, Iowa State Fire Marshall’s Office, and Iowa Office of State Medical Examiner.
