Fund established to help injured Iowa police chief


UPDATE:   A verified gofundme site has been set up to benefit Buffalo, Iowa Police Chief T.J. Behning, who suffered serious injuries in the line of duty this week after a chase.  As of mid-day Wednesday, the site had raised more than $19,000.

(Buffalo, Iowa)  An eastern Iowa police chief is hospitalized in Iowa City, after a chase that ended in crash near Buffalo.

The chase Monday, started in Davenport, the vehicle crashed near Blue Grass, Iowa.  The passenger was arrested there, but the driver stole a garbage truck and took off.

The garbage truck hit the squad car of Buffalo Police Chief T.J. Behning, who was out of his vehicle putting down "stop stocks" when the truck hit the car, but the squad car hit the chief. 

The department says the chief has leg injuries, and will need extensive surgeries.

Tributes and well wishes have begun pouring into the Buffalo Police Department's Facebook page.
