Names released in Creston, Iowa officer-involved shooting

UDPATE:    State investigators say a suspect who died after being shot by a Creston Police Officer early this week has been identified as 31-year-old Christopher Cameron of Creston.   Authorities say an autopsy was completed August 15th, and final results are still pending.  

The name of the Creston Police Officer that fired his service weapon is Sergeant Jared Auten, who has 12 years of law enforcement experience.

CRESTON, Iowa-  A Creston Police Officer is on paid leave, after shooting an armed man.  Police were called to McKinley Park in Creston shortly before Midnight (Monday) about a man with a gun, sitting on a park bench.

Authorities say the officers spoke with him  for several minutes, he refused to show his hands, and then came at the officers, -that's when a Creston Officer fired his weapon, striking the man.    The man was given medical treatment but later died of his injuries.  

An Autopsy will be performed by the Iowa Medical Examiner's Office tomorrow, August 15th.
