A veteran-owned Iowa solar energy company, Ideal Energy announced plans for the largest solar array project in the state. The 1.1-megawatt array will be over 200 times the size of a typical residential array, covering 5 acres of land right next to the Maharishi University of Management (MUM) campus.
The solar project will also include a 1 megawatt-hour battery energy storage system, which will be the largest of its kind in the midwest. The panels and battery storage project will be able to provide one-third of the Universities annual electricity needs. Construction is scheduled to begin early this summer and take around two months.
Ideal Energy is owned by Troy Van Beek, a veteran, and former Navy SEAL, who told us his passion for solar energy comes from his experience with conflict around the world. Wherever there are limited resources, there is conflict and he believes providing easily accessible energy is a good step forward to reducing global conflict.
