REPORT: NFL Players Planning Alternative Protests to ‘SPITE’ League
Some professional athletes within the National Football League are already planning alternative protests to “spite” officials just days after NFL owners announced all personnel will be required to stand for the national anthem.
The revised guidelines demand all players and staff “on-field” will stand during the performance of the ‘Star-Spangled Banner,’ allowing those wishing to “protest” to remain in the locker room during the pre-game ceremonies.
“The players, who weren’t planning on demonstrating during the national anthem this season, said they were looking for way to ‘skirt’ the new NFL rules just to spite the NFL,” writes Fox News.
According to NFL.com, other players are weighing their options on whether they will be making “different on-field gestures” to highlight their cause.
While admittedly a small sample size, some players are telling me they’re *considering* staying in locker room or making a different on-field gesture simply b/c they feel this new policy is a direct challenge to them. Before today, they hadn’t thought about demonstrating in ‘18.
