One man dead-his pickup split in two on Highway 5 crash

One person is dead following a three-vehicle crash on Highway 5 during the Monday morning commute.

Trooper Alex Dinkla of the Iowa State Patrol says a pickup truck headed east veered off the highway, going across the median and colliding with a westbound tanker truck.  The impact of the crash split the pickup truck in half and threw the driver from the crash.

The pickup truck driver was dead at the scene.  Noone else was injured.

Eastbound traffic on Highway 5 was re-routed at Southwest 9th street, while westbound traffic was veered away before the US 65/69 exit for several hours while the crash was investigated.
