West Des Moines woman charged with stealing from sister

(DES MOINES, Iowa)    A West Des Moines woman is accused of stealing more than 300-thousand dollars from her sister, who has Alzheimer’s.

Seventy-nine-year-old Jewell Davis is charged with dependent adult abuse-financial exploitation, she has admitted using her sister's money.

Authorities say Davis has power of attorney over her sister Iva Grossman’s finances.   Her sister has Alzheimer’s and lives in a nursing home.

Davis is accused of using more than 300-thousand dollars in Grossman's assets, writing checks to herself, and using proceeds from the sale of Grossman's home, to buy two homes in Polk County.

Davis has a preliminary hearing at the end of the month.

The investigation into the case began last spring,  when investigators in the Iowa Department of Human Services and contacted the Des Moines Police Department
