Crews battle West Des Moines apartment fire PHOTOS

(WEST DES MOINES, Iowa)  West Des Moines fire fighters were called to a fire this (Monday) afternoon at the Olde English Village Apartment Complex, at 1200 Office Park Road.

Smoke could be seen coming from the roof line throughout the length of the three story, 24-unit apartment building.  Crews broke a third floor window, and fire could be seen.  Not long after, flames broke through the roof of the structure.   Heavy smoke and flames caught the attention of many drivers on I-235, causing a significant slow down.

A resident of the building tells WHO Radio News he lives on a lower floor, and heard alarms, but did not smell any smoke.  He says a maintenance worker knocked on doors to make sure everyone was out of the building.  There have been no reports of injuries.

WHO Radio's Gary Barrett reports the roof of the building has collapsed.
