Snow-covered roads close down southern Iowa

Iowa Department of Transportation Snow Plow Cam near Decatur City in far southern Iowa

The National Weather Service issues a Blizzard Warning across most of the south-central and SW Iowa counties, with a Winter Storm Warning for SE  Iowa.

As temperatures drop and winds are starting to pick up, icy roads are being reported all across southern Iowa. .

**DANGEROUS TRAVEL TODAY*** A light wintry mix will transition to snow this morning and become heavy across southern Iowa today into tonight, along with increasing winds. The northern edge of the heavy snow band will be across central Iowa, with a sharp cut-off from areas of higher accumulations to areas that will see very little accumulation. North winds gusting to 40+ mph will cause blowing and drifting of snow, and significantly reduce visibility to near zero at times especially in the heavy snow areas across southern Iowa. Travel will be extremely dangerous! Conditions should slowly improve overnight tonight, with Monday and Tuesday looking dry but much colder.
