Metro Des Moines School Districts Reporting Low Number of COVID-19 Cases

DES MOINES, Iowa - Some Des Moines metro school districts are reporting low rates of COVID-19 infections.

The West Des Moines, Urbandale, Johnston and Waukee districts all report new cases in the single digits over the past week.

Waukee and Johnston both have a higher number of students and staff members in quarantine (150 for each district) than Waukee or West Des Moines.

All four districts are in compliance with the state's requirement for half of all classes to be in-person.

Des Moines Public Schools is still conducting online only classes, and is the only district in the state to be in non-compliance. The district is holding a special meeting Wednesday to figure a COVID-19 policy for allowing in-person classes.

The Des Moines district's current plan won't have high school students back in classrooms until November 10th.
