Iowa Ranks 10th in Country For COVID-19 Cases

DES MOINES, Iowa - The number of people with COVID-19 in Intensive Care Units in Iowa is falling, while the numbers of new cases and deaths is still going up.

Iowa ranks 10th highest in the nation for new COVID cases per-capita on a 14-day average, and 5th highest for new deaths.

Neighboring South Dakota and Wisconsin rank 1st and 4th respectively for deaths per capita. neighboring South Dakota and Wisconsin are 2nd and 3rd for COVID-19 cases.

Hospitalizations (561) in Iowa have hit another high mark as of early Monday morning, as have the number of counties with high COVID-19 rates.

Currently, 17 counties have coronavirus rates of 15 percent or higher, which allows schools districts to apply to the state for a waiver to conduct online only classes.

Just over 40 percent of Iowa's hospital beds are available.
