(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Three eastern Iowa men are facing months in prison and/or will have to pay thousands of dollars in restitution, after admitting they rolled back odometers on vehicles they sold over the internet.
Fifty-year-old Jerret Schreiber of Parkersburg, 33-year-old David Stangeland of Cedar Falls, and 36-year-old Dustin Arends of New Hartford pleaded guilty to altering the odometers to sell the vehicles at a higher price. Investigators say they also registered vehicles in different names.
Schreiber got the biggest sentence, six months in prison, and six months home confinement. He pled guilty to wire fraud. He was also ordered to pay more than 90-thousand dollars in restitution.
Evidence showed Schreiber was involved in the sale of at least 17-vehicles.
Stangeland received a one month prison term after he pled guilty to conspiracy to commit odometer fraud. Evidence in the case proved Stangeland was involved in the sale of at least 21 vehicles. He was ordered to repay $85,050 in restitution.
Arends received three years’ probation after he pled guilty to odometer tampering. Evidence in the case proved Arends was involved in the sale of at least 6 vehicles. He was ordered to repay $23,200 in restitution.
The three men were sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Judge C.J. Williams.
