(Waukee, IA) -- Waukee is the fastest-growing city in Iowa, according to the U-S Census, for cities larger than 10,000. Waukee's population grew by 8.7 percent in the past year, to 26,495. The Des Moines suburb has added 2,555 new residents in the past 12-months. The city also issued more than 17-hundred building permits for a record-setting $330.6 million. Of those, 831-were for single family or multi-family housing. Waukee's projecting its population could reach 40-thousand by 2030.

“The City annually projects a population increase of six percent as part of the budget approval process,” said Waukee Mayor Courtney Clarke. “This is a conservative estimate of population growth, used as a guideline for projections, as well as planning for infrastructure improvements and resident amenities. However, we are not surprised when the actual numbers outpace our projections.”
