Johnston Fire Displaces 18 People

(Johnson, IA) -- Eighteen people, including six children are displaced after a Johnston fire. Johnston-Grimes Fire crews were called to a fire at 5740 Gables Way, around 10 this (Thursday) morning, and were able to bring the fire under control quickly. A spokesperson with the City of Johnston says there were no injuries, but six units were damaged.

The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the displaced residence and arranging temporary housing for them.

The State Fire Marshal is investigating the fire.

The Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire District received assistance from fire departments, including Ankeny, Clive, Urbandale, Saylor Township, Polk City, and West Des Moines. The Johnston Police Department was also on the scene.
