(Des Moines, IA) -- The state of Iowa is reporting that deer populations are highest in the state where their habitats are most intact.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is mandated by state law to report on the deer population in the state every three years.

The latest report says deer are an economic benefit to Iowa, with $181 million in tangible value.

The DNR report deer are most prevalent in the south-central and northeastern parts of the state.

Archery Deer Hunting Season is underway until December 6th. Shotgun Hunting Season begins in early December.
