A driver led Polk County deputies on an early morning, wrong-way chase throughout Polk County this morning.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office says deputies first responded to the area of NE 14th and I-80 on a report of a vehicle driving the wrong way on the Interstate.

It then drove at high rates of speed on the North side of Des Moines, running red lights and swerving between lanes before driving northbound in the southbound lanes of I-235.

Shortly after deputies discontinued the chase, the vehicle had ran off the roadway and hit a tree.

The driver has yet to be located.
