Latest Drought Monitor Map Shows Most of Iowa in Some Drought Condition

(Iowa) -- The latest U.S. drought monitor map shows most of Iowa is in some type of drought.

Approximately 80 percent of the state is in some form of drought condition, ranging from abnormally dry to moderate drought, primarily in central, western, and eastern Iowa.

About 20 percent of the state, mostly in south central and south eastern Iowa is drought free.

One year ago, in April of 2024 90-percent of Iowa was in some form of drought, and 45-percent of the state was in severe to extreme drought.
