A Des Moines man is convicted for shooting and killing a woman last summer in North Des Moines.

A jury convicted James Johnson today for first-degree murder after a week-long trial.

The Polk County Attorney's Office says Johnson saw Nikki Loffredo walking last July and asked her to come get high with him.

He says he felt disrespected when she said no, and then fired at the ground near her four times before speeding away.

Loffredo was taken to the hospital, where she later died from gunshot wounds to her legs.

Johnson's will be sentenced on June 20 and faces life in prison.
