Metro Waste Authority Installs Containers for Safe Disposal of Batteries

(Des Moines, IA) -- People in the Des Moines area can now safely dispose of used batteries at more than a dozen locations.

Metro Waste Authority has placed battery drop-off containers in 13 communities across the Des Moines metro. People can drop off all types of batteries into the fire-safe containers, and the discarded batteries will be safely taken to the Metro Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Facility in Bondurant.

Available locations include:

  • Altoona City Hall
  • Ankeny City Hall
  • Bondurant City Hall
  • Clive Public Safety Center
  • Des Moines Public Works
  • Grimes City Hall
  • Johnston Public Library
  • Mitchellville City Hall
  • Norwalk Public Library
  • Pleasant Hill Public Library
  • Polk City City Hall
  • Urbandale Public Library
  • Windsor Heights City Hall

MWA says it plans to expand the number of drop-off locations throughout the year.
