Council Bluffs School Threat 'Not Credible'

Council Bluffs Police say a C. B. resident faces a charge for providing false information about a threat that resulted in several Bluffs schools going into lockdown for 25 minutes Tuesday morning.

C. B. Police say officers went to Franklin Elementary, 3130 Avenue C, on a report by 39-year- old Joyce Sweeney that a third party was on their way to “shoot up the school.”

Officers were on scene within minutes.

School staff followed their lockdown procedures preventing access into the school, and nearby schools were advised to go into lockdown as a precaution.

After an investigation, it was determined the threat was not credible, and Sweeney was charged with Providing False Information, a simple misdemeanor, punishable by 30 days in jail or a fine.

Police say the woman was also banned from the school for the rest of the school year.

All schools were then released from the lockdowns.
