(Des Moines, IA) -- After a lengthy, late-night debate in the Iowa Senate on Monday, a bill that would make it harder for pipelines and other similar projects to use eminent domain was approved by the Iowa Legislature. But, as with any law, it still needs Governor Kim Reynolds' signature. State Rep. Steven Holt (R-Denison) said the bill is about property rights as he managed the bill in the lower chamber.
"I believe the governor has shown herself over and over again to stand up for the freedom of Iowans," Holt said. "The freedom and liberty of Iowans. We were one of the first states to open during Covid. To open our schools back up. To open our businesses back up. So I know that our governor in freedom and liberty so I'm confident that she will sign it."
Governor Reynolds has thirty days after the end of the session to sign or veto any remaining legislation. Otherwise, a pocket veto takes place.
