(Des Moines, IA) -- Simpson College has begun its search for an interim president following the passing of President Jay Byers last month.

Board of Trustees Chair Terry Handley has been serving as acting president since April 21. The college stated that the board expects to have an interim president in place by the start of the 2025–26 academic year.

Byers, 54, was found deceased in the Sigler House, the president’s residence on campus, on April 17 after missing scheduled meetings. He had served as Simpson’s president since July 2023.
