(Iowa) -- Researchers at Iowa State University are studying how to lengthen human lives.

A recent study of fruit flies found that flies missing a specific developmental hormone ended up living up to 30 percent longer. Those with the hormone developed faster, leading to a shorter lifespan. Flies without the hormone showed reduced inflammation and delayed signs of aging. The study was published this month, and researchers say the results could lead to further studies on human longevity.

The full study is available online.
