(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- A man charged as a suspect in a 42 year-old Linn County cold case is now in custody in Iowa.

Michael Schappert was extradited from Oregon over the weekend.

He's accused of murdering Ron Novak in December of 1983.

Police say they were able to finally track down a suspect based on DNA evidence from clothing and a hammer left at the scene.

A Cedar Rapids Gazette report says investigators believe the murder was part of a botched robbery tied to Novak's selling of marijuana.

Schappert is a Cedar Rapids native who attended Kennedy High School.
