Minnesota Senator Injured in Shooting Has Long Ties to Iowa

(DES MOINES, IA) -- Minnesota State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, are recovering after being shot in their Brooklyn Park home, according to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety confirmed that Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband were killed in the same incident. Authorities say the suspect was posing as a police officer. A manhunt is ongoing.

According to a public statement by Iowa political leader Sean Bagniewski, Hoffman previously lived in West Des Moines and co-founded the West Des Moines Democrats in 1992. Jamie Grout, a former Des Moines radio colleague, confirmed that Yvette Hoffman once worked in local radio under the on-air name “Kelly Foxx.”
