(West Des Moines, IA) -- First responders have resumed their search this morning for an 18-year-old man who went missing in the Raccoon River at Raccoon River Park. According to West Des Moines Police, the man went underwater Sunday evening and did not resurface. The initial 911 call came in just before 5:30 p.m.

Witnesses reported seeing the man go under while swimming in the designated beach area. Emergency crews, including the Des Moines Police Department’s Metro STAR Dive Team, responded to the scene. The search was suspended overnight due to nightfall and resumed early Monday morning.

The beach area at Raccoon River Park remains closed to the public as the search continues.
