Des Moines Police are identifying the victim in a fatal hit-and-run crash earlier this week.

Police responded to Merle Hay and Hickman Road on Monday night on a report of a pedestrian being hit by a car. 53-year-old Andrew Verwers was found with critical injuries, and later died at a local hospital.

DMPD says a pickup truck was going eastbound on Hickman was it crossed the center median and hit Verwers, who was standing in the median.

The truck was found a short time later, and the driver has been interviewed by police.

The same truck was called into another law enforcement agency as a reckless driver, reportedly crossing the center line and hitting a curb.

The investigation into the crash continues, and no criminal charges have been filed.
