Woman critically injured after house explosion in Des Moines

An adult woman is critically injured after an explosion at a home on the Northeast side of Des Moines.

Calls came in just after 2:30 p.m. Monday about an explosion in the 2700 block of Sampson Street.

Several neighbors told WHO Radio News they heard a "loud boom" and "rumble", before seeing a woman and a dog run out of the home. One neighbor told our newsroom that another woman helped the woman get away from the burning home.

One person told WHO Radio News the dog had been taken to the Animal Rescue League to receive care. Des Moines Police say a woman has been taken to UnityPoint-Methodist in critical condition.

Natural Gas and Electric to the home has been turned off as the investigation continues.
