(Cedar Rapids, IA) – A man charged in a decades-old cold case has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.

64-year-old Michael Schappert is accused of killing 24-year-old Ronald Novak, who was found shot and beaten to death on Christmas Eve in 1983. Schappert was arrested in Oregon after DNA evidence linked him to Novak’s murder.
