(Des Moines, IA) -- A Des Moines man has been arrested in connection with an improvised explosive device (IED) found at Waveland Golf Course on Thursday.

Des Moines Police say 41-year-old Michael Valento was taken into custody early Friday morning following the execution of a search warrant at his residence. Investigators believe Valento detonated a pipe bomb-style IED on the golf course on July 3. A second device was discovered by golfers on Thursday and was safely detonated by the bomb squad.

Valento faces multiple charges, including:

  • Possession of an Explosive or Incendiary Device with Intent
  • Arson
  • Dominion or Control of a Firearm/Offensive Weapon by a Domestic Abuse Offender

The investigation remains ongoing.
