(Hartley, IA) -- An Iowa state trooper is being credited for saving the life of a RAGBRAI rider.

A 62 year-old cyclist from California collapsed from an existing medical condition between Granville and Hartley during Day 1 of the ride Sunday.

Reports say bystanders gave the man who had no pulse CPR for nearly 10 minutes until a nearby Trooper arrived with a automated external defibrillator (AED) from his patrol car.

Iowa State Patrol says the cyclist is in Sioux City hospital receiving medical care.

A 52 year-old rider died on the route near Ames from a medical condition in 2023.

Today is day 3 of RAGBRAI with riders covering 74 miles between Estherville and Forest City.
