(Des Moines, IA) -- With holiday break underway, Des Moines Police are warning parents and teens that increased time online may raise the risk of sextortion.

Financial sextortion, an online form of blackmail where perpetrators obtain or claim to have sexually explicit content of a victim and threaten to release it unless they are paid, is one of the fastest-growing crimes.

Teenage boys are the most common victims.
