Two Iowa Guardsmen Killed in Syria Returning Home Christmas Eve

(Des Moines, IA) -- The two Iowa Guardsmen killed in Syria will arrive home in Central Iowa on Christmas Eve.

25-year-old Edgar Torres Tovar of Des Moines and 29-year-old Nate Howard of Marshalltown will arrive at Des Moines International Airport tomorrow at 1 p.m.

The Iowa National Guard will hold an honorable transfer of the remains of the two soldiers.

The private event is for the families of the soldiers and is not open to the public.

In honor of their service and sacrifice, both soldiers were posthumously promoted to the rank of staff sergeant.
