Scammers eye Iowa's baby boomers

Scammers could be salivating over aging Iowa baby-boomers.    Insurance Commissioner Doug Ommen says boomers are being targeted now, and it'll likely get worse, as more retire.

He says it's estimated seven (M) million people are scammed out of billions each year in the United States in "get rich quick" schemes.

He says there's likely more cases that don't get reported because people are ashamed they were duped and too embarrassed to tell anyone.

The Iowa Insurance Division has a "Fraud Fighters" program, that's holding a free informational dinner the evening of June 22nd at Prairie Meadows Convention Center in Altoona.   The dinner is paid for by the state's crime restitution program.

Similar programs are scheduled for Ames and Fort Dodge.

Those interest in attending are asked to RSVP, as the event is free, but dinner is included.  Retirees and their families and/or care-givers are invited to attend.
