UPDATE: I-80 on west side of Des Moines metro reopened after shut down

I-80 WB shut down, debris all over road

UPDATE:  I-80 was reopened a little after 5:00 p.m. but residual slowdowns haunted the rest of afternoon drive Friday.

A front loader was brought in to clear debris that was all over the three westbound lanes after a semi truck jack-knifed in a multi-vehicle crash.

An oil spill also had to be cleaned off the road before traffic could resume.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A jack-knifed semi spread debris over all three lanes of I-80 on the northwest side of the Des Moines Interstate loop just before 3:30 Friday afternoon.  The stretch of WB 80 near Douglas was closed, and exits at 141 and 86th Street were also closed.

Responders called for a snow plow to clear debris.  Listen to AM1040 WHO for updated traffic information from the WHO Traffic Cente.r
