2,400 Volunteers Needed! We Need YOU!

Susan Bunz, Executive Director of Meals From The Heartland, joined us in the studio this morning after the 8: 30 news.  Each year at this time, Meals From The Heartland hosts a huge food packaging event at Hy-Vee Hall in downtown Des Moines.  This year's event is Wednesday, August 30th, thru Saturday, September 2nd.  Packaging sign-ups are in 2 hour increments beginning at 9AM and running thru 6PM. Their goal is to package 5 million meals during the event!  If they reach this goal, they will package their one hundred millionth meal during the event!  These meals stary here in Central Iowa and go to Food Bank and DMARC Food Pantries as well as feed children in feeding programs around the world. Currently, they are 2,400 volunteers short of what they need.  If you can help, please sign up at their website, www.mealsfromtheheartland.org.  Susan came to us because she knows how responsive and generous WHO Radio listeners are with their time and resources!  If you can't help package, but would really like to help, you can also make donations to help purchase the food which is being packaged on that same website.  You can hear the entire interview with Susan below

Don't forget, if you win the $700,000,000 Powerball jackpot tonight, you want to stay as anonymous as possible so you can safeguard yourself and your winnings. Here are the steps experts say to take.

Buy your ticket in a state that doesn’t make you come forward. For most of us, it’s too late now, but for future reference Delaware, Kansas, Maryland, North Dakota, Ohio and South Carolina are the only states that let you lay low.

Don’t tell anyone! This is ridiculously hard, but do it.

Wipe out all your social media accounts ASAP and change your phone number and address. Don’t make it easy for people to find you.

Wear a disguise to claim your prize. The cameras will be rolling so don’t show them who you really are.

Also get your name changed to just initials on your promotional check.

Seek financial and legal help. Set up an LLC or trust immediately. You can’t be tracked if an “organization” is buying everything for you.

Good Luck!!!

Tomorrow on Van and Bonnie, Hawkeye Football Coach Kirk Ferentz will be joining us!  Leila will be sitting in for Van from 5-6AM and Jeff Angelo will be sitting in for Van from 6-9AM.  Tune in for the fun!

Have a super day!

Bonnie
